I am Zsolt Lesti, founder of the World Travel library – The Collection. I have been collecting a variety of books, brochures, publications, maps, annual reports, yearbooks of countries, airports, airlines and vehicles of the world since 1990.
Let me give you a short overview of the collection:
The collection consists of more than 103.000 official printed publications, books, maps and 12.000 postcards of countries, aviation and vehicles.
It is centred around three main topics:
Countries
The backbone of the collection, which consists of more than 85.000 publications from 180 countries, including 11.700 maps, 3450 books (most of them never gone to the commercial circulations) including 400 antique books/publications published between 1873 and 1959. My goal is to explore each country from multiple perspectives, although you will find that many of the publications provide the reader with an introduction to the architecture of the country, including different government-, cultural-, historical- and religious buildings, palaces, castles, hotels and parks.
Aviation:
7400 publications, including yearbooks, annual reports, inflight magazines, timetables and brochures about 400 airlines and 340 airports.
Vehicles:
9400 publications about cars, busses, heavy- and light trucks from 1950 to present days.
At the present time I have not had any room or building but I would like to establish a place for the biggest and most unique world travel library for the public, so I AM SEEKING a Partner / Institution / other Library for it.
The final purpose is to present the world with an interesting collection of the countries, aviation and vehicles including the colorful culture, past and present. I would be more than happy to work together with other government- and cultural institutions, and with different institutions of the travel, hotel and transportation industries/companies (exhibitions).
All publications are original prints (except for some reprinted maps), some of the issues were printed by the local municipality itself and signed by the mayor and the regional president.
My desire to work in full time so I would like to obtain 1000 USD per month (I have to find at least 1000 person who spend for this project minimum 1 USD, EUR or CHF per month by PayPal). I love so much this work, this is my passion and my life. I think this is the only way to break up from my present status. If I could find these people and they could pay for this project 600 USD/month. I could start immediately for half-time working.
In the future I would like to find a place for physical Collection, start regular exhibitions and continue the physical collecting work.
This collection will be more interesting and valuable in the coming years and decades and hopefully preserved for future generations, since due to the transmission from physical printing to the use of electronic media, the number of printed materials will gradually decrease worldwide. I have been building up this collection since I was 14 years old, largely on my own, not counting the generous help of thousands of collaborators who provide me with publications on a daily basis.
